Oyo drivers on strike

Drivers of commercial mini buses withdrew their vehicles from the roads in Ibadan, Oyo State capital, on Thursday leaving many commuters stranded.
The drivers said the decision was taken to protest the several tolls being collected by the leadership of the state council of the National Union of Road Transport Workers from them.
Routes affected by the driver’s protest included Oja Oba/Beere-Bodija-Ojoo axis as well as Dugbe/Oke-Padre-UI-Ojoo route.
The action, which started as early as 7am, left many workers stranded thereby forcing them to arrive late at their various places of work.
Many of those who could not trek the long distance were left with no other choice than to seek the services of cab operators or commercial motorcyclists, popularly called okada.
