Criticisms have continued to trail the poor performance of Mrs Dezani Allison-
Madueke as the immediate past Minister of the petroleum ministry even as
report reaching African Examiner indicates that the former minister is making
frantic efforts to get reappointed.
Sources say that Mrs Madueke’s sin was her deliberate usurpation of the
functions and authorities of the de facto CEO of Nigerian National Petroleum
Corporation, NNPC, deepening the oil cartel into more secrecy and diversion
of oil proceeds.
“Madueke wrecked havoc at all levels of the oil industry in Nigeria, the invoice
on sold crude and actual revenue accruing to the country do not usually
tally.”  the source stated.
Though, Mrs Madueke is said to be lobbying seriously to be reappointed into
the plum ministry, a move that was said not to be receiving favourable
consideration of president Goodluck Jonathan based on deluge of protests
against her from Bayelsa state.
The Bayelsans said “Our State has been badly blistered based on her non-
performance. The President too could suffer an image and performance crisis
if he continues to condone her in spite of her non-performance.”
Interestingly, one of those in the forefront of the campaign to block Madueke’s
return to petroleum ministry is Deremo Peters, the President of Contractors
Forum who stated that “we yearned for a day when one of our own who
understands the plight of the Niger-Deltans will assume leadership and hold
its mantle of office as oil minister and formulate policies that will develop our
area. Since she handled the saddle she has done nothing positive if she had
brought development at least you will see it in our people.”
Sources at the ministry are also accusing the former minister of “favourism
and nepotism.” She is said to have allegedly jettisoned and shortchanged
most established indigenous contractors and openly favored her friends in
Shell Oil, West, East and North to the “detriment of South-Southerners”. She
often outsourced most works and contracts to foreigners, who go outside to
mouth her and the country as a corrupt place. “We suffered greatly under her.”
Saipem, Daewoo, Opi and Acergy are the favored ones under Madueke. It is
believed that more funds could be put into circulation and more hands
engaged if pipeline, platform jacket contracts are awarded to local contractors
as well.
But her loyalists do not share these opposing views as they said “whatever
you guys reports about her will not hold water because the president believes
in her ability and she will be re-appointed into the petroleum ministry.
