Few days to the commencement of the  sixth FIFA Women’s World Cup in Germany, some Nigerians in Berlin say they were confident the Super Falcons would qualify for the second round of the competition.

Our correspondent reports that Nigeria was drawn in Group A and will play against France, Canada and Germany.

The group is considered as the toughest with Germany having the double advantage of being the defending champion and hosts.

Dr Peter Agwi, an architect, said in an interview that he was confident that the Super Falcons would take the second position in the group.

Agwi, an ex-President of Nigerians in Diaspora Organisation, Germany chapter, said he was hopeful that the team would also make it to the semi final.

“I’m sure they will get to the semi final, if not final. Putting them in that group will encourage them to perform better because of the German team.

“I think it will help them because Germany is a very tough team and if you are going to fight a tough person you have to be prepared. Maybe that will make them to qualify along with Germany,’’ he said.

Also speaking, Mrs Stephania Ghogomu, a business woman in Berlin, said that the German team was very strong, “if we come second in the group that will be good.

“I watched the last match between Germany and Norway which is also a good team, German team scored two goals in three minutes. I pray that our team will go far in the competition.

“I‘m a Christian and I believe in miracle. A miracle can happen. Even if we don‘t go too far, it doesn’t matter. The spirit behind it is that we have qualified for the tournament and have come to represent Africa in the World Cup,’’ she said.

According to Mr Akin Adejumo, who is a nurse,  the Super Falcons will come second in the group behind Germany.

“I‘m expecting our team to come either first or second in the group. But, if they can pass the initial grouping stage, then they have a good chance of getting to one of the three top positions,’’ Adejumo said.
