Abuja not under siege – Chief of Defense Staff (CDS)

From Molly Kilete, Abuja

The Chief of Defence Staff (CDS), General Lucky Irabor, has debunked rumours making the rounds that the Boko Haram and

Islamic States of West African Province (ISWAP), terrorists have taken over the Federal Capital Territory, FCT, waiting to attack.

Gen. Irabor, who made this known at a parley with Editors, Bureau Chiefs and Chief Executives of media organizations, described the report as “fake”, targeted at creating panic among residents.

The CDS, who assured FCT, was safe for all, urged residents to go about their legitimate duties without fear of being harassed or attack.

He said the military and the security agencies have made adequate arrangements to secure the FCT and its environs from being attacked.

Gen Irabor, who also spoke on

the upcoming 2023 general elections amid fears that the elections may not hold as a result of the insecurity ravaging most parts of the country,  assured that polls will hold and conducted in a peaceful atmosphere.

Speaking on the counter insurgency war, the CDS, said military operations conducted so far has yielded positive results as  operations in the North West and Central have resulted in the killing of high ranking terrorists, bandits and other criminals disturbing the peace of the region.

He called for effective collaboration between the media and the military to tackle insecurity in the country.
