Afenifere congratulates Jonathan, condemns violence in the North
Latest Politics Friday, April 22nd, 2011THE Yoruba socio political group, Afenifere, has congratulated President Goodluck Jonathan on his victory at the just-concluded presidential elections.
This is just as it condemned the violence, arson and general breakdown of law and order rocking some northern states over the results of the election.
The group sued for peace and called for an end to the killings and destruction in the region.
Afenifere also commiserated with the families of innocent citizens killed in the mayhem, especially members of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) serving their fatherland.
While applauding Jonathan on his emergence as the president-elect, the leader of the group, Chief Reuben Fasoranti, in a statement, said the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate “obtained majority votes in the South-West and substantial support in the other five geopolitical zones in Nigeria across party lines in the last Saturday’s election.”
Chief Fasoranti advised aggrieved politicians who had evidence and facts against the acclaimed transparency of the elections to seek redress in courts of competent jurisdiction.
