Aginighan to N-Delta govs: Stop neglect of oil communities

PORT HARCOURT – FORMER Acting Managing Director of Niger Delta Development Commission, NDDC, Pastor Power Aginighan, has urged governors in the Niger Delta region, to give special attention to the development of oil bearing communities.
Aginighan, also former Executive Director, Finance and Administration of NDDC, said it was lamentable that most of the oil bearing communities in the region were still inaccessible by road.
In a statement, he said some of the governors would not be favored in history, if they continued to neglect the communities, noting that some of the governors were busy developing post oil economies in areas outside the oil bearing communities with money from oil resources without replicating similar projects in the oil producing areas.
He appealed to the governors to endeavour to build modern comfort in the communities and create post oil economies in them.
He said: “It is my counsel that oil rich states of the Niger Delta should compete, not in building five star hotels in non-oil producing sate capitals, but in linking up the alienated oil bearing communities in their states, which had borne the pains of destroyed ecosystem for many years.”
