ANPP/ACN Alliance: Ribadu Under Pressure To Step Down

Alh. Nuhu Ribadu, the ACN presidential candidate is under pressure to resign  ahead of the deadline given by the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, for substitution and presentation of candidates for the 2011 general elections by the various political parties. The contact committee of the All Nigeria Peoples Party, ANPP,   and the leadership of the Action Congress of Nigeria, ACN, yesterday met for the second consecutive day in Abuja with a view to fine tune and put finishing touches to alliance talks between the two parties.

The All Nigeria People’s Party, had opened an alliance talk with the Action Congress of Nigeria. The talks were however slowed down when the Congress for Progressives Change, ,CPC, also approached the ACN on the need to work together to achieve victory in the forthcoming general elections.

The alliance talks between the ACN and the CPC, LEADERSHIP WEEKEND gathered, may have already hit the rocks following the choice of a presidential running mate of General Mohhamadu Buhari, who is to fly the presidential flag of the CPC in the forthcoming general elections.

Insiders told LEDERSHIP WEEKEND that the alliance talks between the ANPP and the ACN were attended by the presidential candidate of the ANPP, Mallam Ibrahim Shekarau, his ACN counterpart, Mallam Nuhu Ribadu and other stalwarts of the two political parties, with representatives of the state governors under the platform of both ACN and the ANPP.

it was gathered that the presidential candidate of the ANPP and executive governor of Kano State, Mallam Ibrahim Shekarau looks good to fly the presidential flag of the ANPP/ACN alliance ahead of the forthcoming presidential elections.

The favourable disposition towards Shekarau, our man gathered, is based on his track record as a two term governor of Kano State, as well as his national acceptability and vision for the country.

Although the credibility of the ACN presidential candidate, Nuhu Ribadu, was also not in doubt, we gathered that the leadership of the two political parties (ANPP and ACN) is also looking at the wealth of experience of the two candidates, which places the Kano State governor ahead of the former EFCC boss.

The ANPP/ACN alliance meeting presently holding in Abuja, is expected to conclude today. The representatives of the two political parties will hold meetings thereafter with their various National Working Committees, to brief members ahead of the INEC deadline for presentation and substitution of candidates.

A source at the meeting, who is a stalwart of the ACN, revealed that the two parties are doing everything possible to convince the ACN presidential candidate to step down for Mallam Shekarau.

Confirming the merger talks between the two political parties, the national publicity secretary Mr. Emma Eneukwu, told LEADERSHIP WEEKEND that, “Talks are actually in progress between the ANPP and the ACN for an alliance and this talks started some time ago. “I think what we  are doing now is to work out the details of the alliance both in terms of the manifestoes and other details, but I can confirm to you that the results of the alliance talks would be encouraging because both parties have men and women of integrity and would not do anything  that would affect their parties negatively in the forthcoming elections.”
