APC destined to take over Aso Rock Presidential Villa from PDP in 2015

Re: YOU’RE INVITING ANARCHY —PDP tells APC, hammers opposition over satanic directive published by News Express on January 24, 2014. The emergence of APC has completely diminished the unipolar power structure and the business-as-usual mentality of the ruling party PDP.

Now, the PDP is forced to look over its shoulders in all its dealings because of the immense threat from APC. That’s a huge colony of albatrosses over their head and responsible opposition in action. APC has taken over the Lower House as the majority party. We hope to see the same pattern repeat itself in the Upper House quite imminently. So, what does that portend for Nigeria’s democracy?

I see the PDP, while its leadership at the center lasts, being forced to sit up and act rightly in the polity. I see masses-oriented laws being enacted in the legislature. The Executive Branch will be forced to enforce those laws or they will constantly be filibustered in the legislature, just as we have seen with this news report, and that will stall every executive recklessness and ultimately bring government to its knees. The implication of this is that the ruling party will be framed as having failed in its duty to govern.

Consequently, Nigerians will be left with credible alternatives which the APC provides, as to who they choose to rule them and who receives their consent and mandate to govern.  The polity, in the face of this evolving trend, will be forced to shift from the chaotic space it used to be. Other political parties will be forced to overhaul their structures, platforms or manifestos, and ensure that internal democracy becomes the only premise on which its candidates emerge. But it changes the political scene for the realisation of accountable leadership at all levels. All these are the argument of true democracy; and they embed the exact mission of the APC.

An APC government at the centre will definitely re-order the direction of the nation towards measured development, and that’s the reason it does matters that all progressives and freedom loving citizens of Nigeria must converge to work with the APC to produce the President in 2015, even as it is important that the APC controls both houses of our bicameral legislature in interim.

In 2015, nothing should stand in the way of APC forming the next federal government. It would have been overdue for a “change of guards” in Nigeria’s fledgling democracy.
