Arewa Crisis Deepens As Jonathan’s Man Hits Back
Arewa House, Latest Politics Saturday, January 29th, 2011Barely 48 hours after the Arewa Consultative Forum (ACF) issued a communique denouncing the Peoples Democratic Party’s (PDP) primary that produced President Goodluck Jonathan as its presidential candidate, a pro-Jonathan member of the ACF and former secretary of the forum’s political committee, Alhaji Mohammed Abdurrahman, has called the bluff of the Arewa chieftains, whom he said can’t stop Jonathan in the coming presidential election.
Although he is still a member of the ACF’s political committee, Abdurrahaman, who appeared to be leading other aggrieved members of the forum to form a pro-Jonathan clique, alleged that the anti-Jonathan members in ACF were losing relevance even in their locality and were poised to cause confusion in the polity.
Speaking in Kaduna, Abdulrrahman also alleged that the ACF chieftains were opposed to Jonathan because the president could not see them — an action he said smacked off corruption.
But the National Publicity Secretary of the ACF, Anthony Sani, told newsmen in Kaduna that Abdurrahman’s position was misinformed, misdirected and misguided.
Abdurrahman stated that a communiqué released by the ACF did not reflect what was discussed during their National Executive Council (NEC) meeting on Tuesday, even as Sani said that the forum did not need any power to reject the emergence of the president.
He alleged that even though various personal opinions were expressed during the meeting, there was no decision to reject the outcome of any party primary.
