Arewa denies mobilising generals for Buhari
Arewa House, Elections 2011 Wednesday, March 9th, 2011Disturbed by news report that retired military generals of Northern extraction would soon meet in Kaduna at the instance of the Arewa Consultative Forum (ACF) to discuss issues about the Congress for Progressive Change (CPC) presidential candidate, General Muhammadu Buhari, and the 2011 general election, chieftains of the ACF, on Wednesday, in Kaduna said the story had no iota of truth.
The ACF, however, commended President Goodluck Jonathan for his commitment to ensuring free, fair and transparent elections in April and urged registered voters to come out and vote for leaders of their choice.
The ACF National Publicity Secretary, Mr Anthony Z. Sani, said at a press conference in Kaduna that the purported report was aimed at heating the polity, adding that ACF only issued a statement on a planned security expert meeting, which would forward the recommendations to President Jonathan for implementation as a deliberate way to assist in curbing insecurity in Nigeria.
Flanked by ACF’s Secretary General, Col. Musa Shehu (rtd), Sani explained that they were shocked by the “misleading report by some national dailies, saying that we are mobilising retired generals for Buhari, the presidential candidate of Congress for Progressive Change (CPC).”
