Mudiaga Affe, CalabarThe Cross River State Governor, Prof. Ben Ayade, on Thursday celebrated his 49th birthday with Bakassi refugees amidst fanfare.

The event was in fulfilment to celebrate his birthday with the internally displace persons at Ikpa-Nkaya, Akwa-Ikot-Eyo-Edem in Akpabuyo Local Government Area of the state.

At the event, which attracted dignitaries including a former presidential adviser, Senator Florence Ita-Giwa, and the Speaker of the state House of Assembly, Mr John Gaul-Lebo, the governor donated food and support materials to the refugees.

Ayade had last Saturday during the groundbreaking ceremony of 5, 000 units of two bedroom housing units for Bakassi returnees, promised that he would return to celebrate with the refugees.

The 5, 000 housing project is being funded by the Africa Nations Development Project for displaced and indigent indigenes of the state.

His wife, Dr Linda Ayade, supported his donation with over 500 long lasting insecticides treated nets distributed through her Mediatrix Development Foundation.

Ayade, accompanied by his wife and other government functionaries, were treated to a variety of entertaining displays and served roasted goat with a bow tie on its neck.

However, some appointees used the occasion to showcase their mobilisation prowess by sponsoring a group bearing placards with praises of the governor inscribed on them.

The group wore customised clothing with bold inscriptions disclosing their plans to ensure the governor ran for a second term in 2019.
