Baba Suwe’s lawyer demands N1b compensation,
Headlines Thursday, October 27th, 2011The popular Yoruba comedian Babatunde Omidina, a.k.a Baba Suwe is seeking
one billion naira compensation over his arrest by the National Drug Law
Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) 10 days ago without finding any drug on him.
The actor who wrote the agency through his lawyer, Babatunde Aturu also
demanded his immediate release and a public apology from the agency.
Aturu has given the agency one week to comply with the demands otherwise he
will proceed to court.
Also, the Association of Nigerian Theatre Practitioners (ANTP) has called for
the immediate release of the comedian.
A former president of the association, Mr Jide Kosoko who addressed
journalists in Lagos on behalf of the association said “with the fact that nothing
incriminating has been found on him, we are hereby demanding his immediate
and unconditional release from the custody of NDLEA,”
He also stated that “everybody in our industry is now seen as a potential drug
pusher. This is a tag we reject in totality. We do not dispute the fact that there
are bound to be a few bad ones in a large professional grouping.
“We make bold to say that we are not drug pushers but hard working
professionals who have worked hard to earn decent living and the good name
we presently enjoy.”
