Babangida debunks rumour of failing health
Headlines, Ibrahim Babangida (1985-93), Presidency Monday, November 14th, 2011Former military president, General Ibrahim Babangida, at the weekend, described as unfounded, the rumour in some quarters about his worsening health conditions, saying the information was not even near the truth, as he had indicated plans to return to the country before the end the week.
Babangida stated this through some close personal aides at his Hill top Villa, Minna, Niger State capital on Sunday, adding that his medical trip abroad, was not unusual, as almost all retired military personnel, who participated in the 30-month Nigerian Civil War had had similar experiences of nursing one bullet wound or the other in their bodies till date.
The aides, who would not want their names in the print, in an interview with the Nigerian Tribune, stated that it was the civil war effect on personnel, highlighting that Babangida’s legs had been troubling him even when he was in government as the military president.
“It is quite unfair that some people are spreading falsehood that oga’s health has worsened in the last couple of days. This is not true because he is hale and hearty. Almost every retired Nigerian Army General is carrying un-extracted bullets on their bodies and Babangida’s medical check-up in a German hospital was a routine visit,” the sources concluded.
