Bandits abduct hundreds of students in fresh raid in Zamfara school
Headlines, State News, Zamfara Thursday, September 2nd, 2021Suspected bandits have abducted hundreds of students at Kaya Day Secondary School in Zamfara State. The incident occurred on Wednesday in broad day light.
The bandits stormed the school located in Maradun Local Government Area of the state around 11.00am and took the students away.
The Zamfara State Police Command has not yet reacted to the abduction of the students.
Malam Abu Kaya, an indigene of the area told The Punch the number of the kidnapped students would be more than 100.
“We are yet to identify the actual number of students abducted, but we believe that they would reach 100,” he said.
According to him, the school has a population of over 300 students, adding that a significant number of the students were taken by the bandits.
Kaya further explained that the whole town had been deserted due to the fear that the bandits could return to the area.
Also, sources in the area said the bandits stormed the school in a large number and left with the students to an undisclosed location.
This is the third time bandits will be attacking schools in Zamfara this year.
Earlier in the year, bandits kidnapped large number of students in Jangebe and Bakura areas of the state.
No fewer than 317 students were abducted from the Government Girls Science Secondary School in Jangebe during an attack in February, six months before bandits kidnapped at least 20 people comprising students and officials from the College Of Agriculture and Animal Science, Bakura.
