Be wary of ceasefire declared by Boko Haram, Prelate tells FG

BY CALEB AYANSINA

ABUJA — The Prelate, Methodist Church Nigeria, His Eminence, Dr. Ola Makinde, Thursday, urged the Federal Government not to be deceived by the ceasefire declared recently by the Boko Haram Islamic sect.

It also urged government to discountenance the call in some quarters for amnesty to members of the group.

Makinde equally called on government at all levels to take urgent steps to provide the basic needs for Nigerians and talk less about politics.
The Prelate, who made the call at the Maiden Synod of the Methodist Diocese of Kubwa in Abuja, decried the weak infrastructural base in the country, calling for immediate steps to redress the situation.

Makinde said it was unfortunate that most politicians were merely using the authority given to them by the people to bite the hands that fed them.

”It seems the politicians are merely using our votes to oppress us. We voted for them for a better life, but what we see in most states is the opposite,” he said.

Makinde, who was represented by the Secretary of the Synod, Rev. Abel Amuta, urged the government not to be deceived by the recent ceasefire by Boko Haram and proposed amnesty call in some quarters for them, desc- ribing the call as a trap.
