Benue House indicts commissioner nominee of fraud

The Benue State House of Assembly has vented its anger on the immediate past Commissioner for Works and Housing, and Commissioner Nominee, Dr. Eugene Aliegba who was indicted by the House for allegedly earning salaries from the Benue State University and the state government  as Commissioner.

The House said Aliegba, as Commissioner in the first term of the present administration was drawing his  varsity salaries where he was a lecturer before his appointment as Commissioner. The house asked  him to  refunds of the huge sum which is in  millions.

But while appearing on the floor of the House for screening as commissioner nominee, weekend, it was discovered that the former lecturer had failed to comply with the directive of the House thus eliciting angry reactions from members.

Members questioned his moral integrity to serve as commissioner in Governor Suswam’s second term just as they expressed worries at his actions.

Though the former Works/Transport commissioner was eventually cleared, the House however, resolved that he must repay all the money he collected as double salary while serving as commissioner and lecturer to the State coffers.
He was also directed to report back to the Public Accounts Committee of the House upon fulfillment of the directive.

The embattled former Commissioner accepted guilt and profusely apologized to the members and Benue people, while promising to pay back the monies.

All efforts to get Dr. Aliegba to comment on the allegation failed as he refused to pick his calls or even reply to text messages sent to his cell phone.
