Boko Haram: Killing Leah Sharibu won’t solve your problems

The media recently carried reports that Boko Haram killed Saifura Khorsa, one of the kidnapped health workers from Kala-Balge in Borno State and threatened to kill Hauwa Liman, Alice Ngaddah and Leah Sharibu, one of the adopted Dapchi girls that refused to renounce her faith.

Note that some of the kidnapped Chibok schoolgirls are still in Boko Haram custody. A national newspaper on April 15, 2018 reported that 98 of the 113 Chibok schoolgirls in Boko Haram custody had died. The report was attributed to Ahmad Salkida.

However, I have been soliloquizing with rhetorical questions such as: if the kidnapped schoolgirls were the children of governors, senators, ministers, president and other top political office holders in the country, would they have still be in the custody of Boko Haram? Does the government really care about the Chibok schoolgirls and Leah Sharibu? Has the government done enough towards ensuring the release of the girls? Is the government representing our interest? Do we even have a government? Are we safe? Are the terrorists more powerful than the Nigerian government?

Boko Haram terrorists should remember that they have so far killed thousands of innocent Nigerians but their problems are not solved. Killing Leah Sharibu with the others as they had threatened, would still not solve their problems.

Therefore, I will advise that they adopt a new strategy whereby children of president, ministers, senators, governors and other political office holders will be abducted. Boko Haram can abduct the children of the political elite as listed above, and leave the children of the poor alone. They should kill some of the children of the ruling elite. The parents of the remaining one would scramble to solve the problem.

Boko Haram, please leave the innocent people alone and go after the political office holders and their families. They are the only people that can solve your problems, not the poor innocent Nigerians.
