Boko Haram launches first attack in Niger
Africa & World Politics, Boko Haram, Latest Politics Saturday, February 7th, 2015Troops from Chad and Niger are currently repelling a Boko Haram attack on Bosso, a town in Niger.
At least five Nigerian soldiers reportedly got injured in the operation.
Unlike Nigeria and Cameroon that have recorded several attacks from the sect, this is the first time that the militants would operate on the soil of Niger.
On Thursday, the group killed “at least 70 people” in an attack on the town of Fotokol in Cameroon.
Witnesses in Bosso told the AFP that they could hear gunfire.
“We can hear the sound of weapons all around the town, often very near our windows,” one resident said.
“There is the noise of heavy weapons and of light arms, making our houses shake.”
Earlier in the week, the African Union (AU) deployed 7,500 troops to checkmate the excesses of the group.
