Boko Haram: Leave Azazi to us, PDP BoT secretary tells opposition

Secretary, Board of Trustees, BoT, of the ruling Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Senator Walid Jibrin, said the party was capable of handling its internal problems, and, as such, the opposition should not cash in on the statement made by the National Security Adviser, NSA, General Andrew Azazi (rtd.) at the South -South Summit, to create confusion and panic in the country.

He made this known in Kaduna yesterday. He also said discussing 2015 at this point was too early, insisting that it was diversionary. In a press release issued in Kaduna by Senator Jibrin, a copy of which was made available to Daily Sun, he noted that many individuals and groups, all in an effort to discredit the PDP, had interpreted the NSA’s statement.

“We are aware of the NSA’s role professionally and politically with his handicap and the implication of his political statement. But we urge all Nigerians, especially our party members to remain calm and steadfast as the party is handling the matter appropriately.

“PDP does not try its members without giving them fair hearing, in accordance with the principle of natural justice before taking any appropriate action. The leadership style of President Goodluck Jonathan and PDP governors is focused towards solving the problem of insecurity in the country.

“PDP is part of the Nigerian society and, therefore, cannot be singled out as a promoter of any bad act. Security is the concern of all Nigerians. I want to advise that government should resume the stalled dialogue with Boko Haram.
“As PDP members, we must never allow people from outside the party to meddle into our internal affairs, as the party is capable of handling its presidential primaries.

“Let us also say that it is too early to start discussing who will become Nigeria’s president in 2015 because this is diversionary. The president must be given all encouragements to enable him carry on with his developmental agenda,” Senator Jibrin added.
