Boko Haram: Southerners will not leave North – Traditional ruler

AS the three-day ultimatum given to southerners in the northern part of the country by the Islamic sect, Boko Haram, to vacate the region expires, the traditional ruler of the Yoruba in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Oba Olusegun Salau, has urged all non-indigenes in the North not to panic but to stay in their places of abode.

In a statement made available to newsmen in Abuja, on Thursday, Oba Salau urged the non-indigenes in the North to ignore the threat of the faceless organisation, saying that the Federal Government and their host state governments would provide adequate security for them.

According to the oba, “we advise Nigerians to disregard the threats of Boko Haram that they would unleash mayhem unless southerners leave the northern part of the country and northerners leave the South.

“Nigeria is one indivisible country and no one or group of people can hold the nation to ransom so, every Nigerian should stay wherever he/she lives in the country.”

He advised Nigerians to be security conscious and to promptly report any strange movements, persons or objects to law enforcement agencies, community or religious leaders.

On the removal of fuel subsidy by the Federal Government and the public reaction, Oba Salau pleaded with President Goodluck Jonathan to quickly roll out palliative measures that would alleviate the suffering of the masses adding that proceeds realised from the subsidy removal should be judiciously utilised.
