Boko Haram threat: 100 policemen to protect visiting Guinean team
Boko Haram, Headlines Monday, October 3rd, 2011OVER 100 security personnel including the police bomb disposal officers would be attached to the Guineans national team, the Syli National when they arrive Nigeria later in the week for the all important Africa Nations Cup qualifier against the Super Eagles in Abuja on October 8.
The security details would include officers of the Nigeria Police, State Security Services, Civil Defence, and the National Intelligence Agency, who are to ward off threats of the militant, Boko Haram.
Also, a higher number of security officers would be attached to the Super Eagles and their officials throughout their stay in the country for the match.
Moreover, the movement of the players would be restricted while in camp. Moreso, Nigerians who throng the Abuja National stadium to watch the make or mar encounter would have to undergo thorough security checks before they are allowed to gain entrance into the staduim. Vehicles would not be allowed to park near the stadium, as fans would have to park their cars away from the match venue.
It was also gathered that the Protocol department of the NFF has been directed by security agencies and the management of the Federation not to make the arrival date of the Super Eagles players. This, it was gathered was based on public security reports made available to the football house.
The team camp opened today at the Transcorp Hilton Hotel with some of the back room staff being the first to arrive.
