Boko Haram threat: UI students disrupt examination

IBADAN – Students of the University of Ibadan, Wednesday, disrupted their second semester examination following the alleged non-response of the authorities to protect them from threats by Boko Haram to bomb the school.

The  sect had  earlier listed the premier university  among 18  institutions of higher learning to be attacked  by the sect that claims it detests western education.

The examination had barely taken off when the aggrieved students stormed venues of the examination and forced the scanty candidates out of the hall.

The intrusion of the students forced the authorities to put the examination on hold.

The aggrieved students led by the students  union President,   Tokunbo Salako had earlier  mobilised students against taken part in the examination  from moving from one hall of residence to the other.

They complained that the authorities had kept them in the dark about the action taken so far to prevent the religious sect from carrying out their threat.

The alleged silence of the management, they said was further compounded by the total darkness occasioned by the power outage on the campus.

The students’ leaders went from faculty to faculty to ensure that the exams did not hold.

But, when they got to the Faculty of Arts, the students writing their papers resisted them and this led to the tearing of their answer sheets.

According to the student leader, “How on earth are we expected to perform well when there is no light and water to read for the exam? In fact the school authorities have kept us in the dark about this story of Boko-Haram targeting the school.

We only got to know about it in the newspapers and the school has not deemed it fit to inform us either through memo or inviting the student leaders”.

“We all know that terrorists attack where there is a large convergence which is more likely during this examination period. We need more information from the authorities. We need light to move at night and we need water.” he said.
