Canadian PM, Justin Trudeau, in hot water after photos/video emerge of him in blackface markup

The Canadian Politician – For Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, the last 24 hours could not get any worse with the surfacing of yet another instance of the Quebec MP wearing a black or brown face. This is the third instance and there no telling if more photos or videos will be brought forward of the prime minister wearing more racialized faces. The significance of his actions was not lost on him as he stated to reporters, “What I did hurt them, hurt people who shouldn’t have to face intolerance and discrimination because of their identity.”

The third instance of racist makeup first reported by Global News is a video of Trudeau wearing a blackface in an unclear event. The video reportedly taken in the early 1990s, 1993-94, showed the prime minister in a t-shirt with jeans torn at the knees and appeared to be laughing holding unto a wooden bar. In the face of the surfacing of the third video, opposition politicians have called on the prime minister to drop out of the race citing his insensitivity to racialized Canadians and peoples around the world who have to endure the burden of discrimination and racism on a daily basis.

The NDP leader, Jagmeet Singh, stated that it was “Deeply hurtful” to those whose lives have been mimicked and devalued by the racist images of Trudeau. Andrew Scheer of the Conservative Party, Trudeau’s main rival, stated that Trudeau lacked judgement and thus unfit to govern.

Canadians will vote for a new government on October 21.
