Christian leaders exchange words over ownership of private jet
Headlines Tuesday, November 20th, 2012Some concerned Christians of Northern Nigeria extraction have cautioned their counterparts in the Northern Christian Elders Committee of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) to stop criticising the Bishop of Sokoto Diocese, Mathew Hassan Kukah, who spoke against the acquisition of private jets by clergymen.
In a statement signed by their leader, Yahuda Peter, they took exception to the remarks credited to one Elder Sunday Oibe, who spoke on behalf of CAN as its Director of Research, Planning and Strategy, in which he allegedly denigrated Bishop Kukah over of his views on acquisition of private jets/aircrafts by some Nigerian Christians leaders.
Kukah was reported to have said that the acquisition of jets by respected clergymen was an embarrassment to Christianity considering the perilous times we are in.
“Sunday Oibe or whatever he is or claims to represent, acted wrongly and confirms our fears as to the relegation of our honest, unifying and most coveted association (CAN) and her true ideals as carefully laid down by her founding fathers, Ambassador Jolly Tanko Yusuf, Cardinal Ekandem and many others,” the statement said.
