Coalition cautions Jonathan against ex-officials

As lobbying for political appointments reached feverish level following the announcement of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), interest groups are deploying intrigues to outwit one another.

One of such is the Niger Delta Coalition for Credible Governance (NDCCG), which has urged President Goodluck Jonathan to be wary of the calibre of those to be appointed if his administration must deliver on its promises.
But the coalition gave kudos to President Goodluck Jonathan over the two key appointments of SGF and National Security Adviser made two day ago.

Speaking with newsmen yesterday, the coalition cautioned the President on the implications of re-appointing some of its disengaged ministers and other former appointees but to inject new vigour and strategy into his administration.
Specifically, the President and Secretary of the Coalition, Akpos Ologide and Fyneface Williams urged the President to discard some of his ex-appointees, including Mrs. Deziani Allison-Madueke, the erstwhile minister of Petroleum Resources, who they alleged did not live up to expectation.

The group claimed that the performance of most of the former president’s aides was less than brilliant and re-appointing them would not serve the purpose and objective of transformation which the President had promised Nigerians.

“The performance of these former top government officials in the last one year speaks volumes of why they should never be re-appointed, if the President is to make meaningful progress in his quest to develop the nation,” it stated.
The coalition’s position came barely 24 hours after the appointment of Chief Anyim Pius Anyim as the Secretary to the Government of the Federation and the re-appointment of Gen. Andrew Aziza as National Security Adviser to the President.

The NDCCG said the President got it right in the appointment of the gentlemen, but urged him not to make a mistake in the re-appointment of some others.
