Don’t expect goals rain, says Enyeama

Super Eagles goalkeeper Vincent Enyeama has said Nigerians should not expect goals rain when the national team play Namibia’s Brave Warriors in a 2014 World Cup qualifier at the UJ Esuene Stadium, Calabar, on Sunday.

The Eagles need three points against the Brave Warriors on Sunday to brighten their chances of taking part in the 2014 World Cup, scheduled for Brazil.

Although the stand-in Eagles captain for the encounter is optimistic that the Eagles would emerge victorious, he is not expecting an easy game against the visitors.

He said Nigerians should not expect an avalanche of goals and appealed to the country’s teeming football lovers to pray for the team’s victory.

The Lille of France goalkeeper also complained of the ‘harsh’ weather in Calabar, expressing hope that the situation would be tolerable on Sunday.

Enyeama, however, said Nigeria had better chances against Namibia, saying the players would put in their best.

“The chances of winning are 60 to 40 in our favour because we are playing at home and they are playing away,” he said.

Meanwhile, Eagles coach, Stephen Keshi, has explained why he did not invite top stars in Europe and other parts of the world for Sunday’s 2014 World Cup qualifier against Namibia’s Brave Warriors.

Keshi, who spoke with journalists in Calabar, Cross River State on Wednesday, said stars like Mikel Obi, Yakubu Aiyegbeni, Osaze Odemwingie, Uche Kalu and others were not invited because there was the need to give local talents the opportunity to grow.

He said, “I am a product of the local scene. We need to give these kids (home-based players) the opportunity. The players in Europe also left from here. So, why can’t we give the home-based players the chance?”-Punchwp_posts
