Drug trafficker bags 18 month-jail term in Ibadan •2 others remanded in prison

A Federal High Court sitting in Ibadan, Oyo State, on Tuesday, sentenced a 24-year-old drug trafficker, Bullame Alli, to 18 months in jail.

Also, two suspected drug traffickers, Chimmadu Okon, 24 and Adebiyi Samson, 45, were remanded in prison custody.

The prosecutor, Mrs Bridget Viasima, had informed the court that Alli was arrested with substances suspected to be marijuana.

She presented before the court pieces of evidence to prove that the accused was arrested with the drugs.

Having considered the evidence, the presiding judge, Justice Jonathan Sakarho, who said that the law prescribed 21 years jail term on conviction, decided to send the accused to18 months.

Okon, from Benue State, according to the prosecution, was arrested at Ofiki in Atisbo Local Government Area of Oyo State, with 220 kilogrammes of the substance.

She said that Samson was arrested on February 6, on the Ibadan-Akure road, with 600 kilogrammes of the substance suspected to be cocaine.

When the charges were read to the accused, they pleaded guilty.

The presiding judge, Justice Shakarho, therefore, ruled that they should be remanded in prison custody while he adjourned the cases to April 24 and April 30 respectively.
