A Dutch-Nigerian, Wiebe Boer, has refuted report that he is running for the governorship of Plateau State, North Central Nigeria. Boer said he had never contemplated running for the governorship of Plateau next year. Posters of Boer had flooded the internet canvassing for electoral votes in next year’s governorship election. Responding to the report, the Dutch-Nigerian said it had come to his attention that posters implying that he was running for Governor of Plateau State under the name of Yohanna Maigona had gone viral. “I am categorically stating that I have no intention of running political office in Nigeria, and I am not eligible to do so,” he said. He added that the only truth to the insinuation was that he was born in Jos and raised in Taraba and Plateau States to Dutch missionary parents and had spent the last 12 years living in Lagos and serving Nigeria and Nigerians in various capacities. “I have always been a staunch believer in the potential of Nigeria and will continue to support the country’s development from the sidelines,” he said. |
