Edo: ACN floors PDP in House of Assembly polls

THE Action Congress of Nigeria, ACN, in Edo State, has defeated the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, in Tuesday’s state House of Assembly election, capturing 19 seats out of the 24, as against the four won by the PDP.

The Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, has, meanwhile, ordered a re-run in two units in Igueben Local Government Area, home town of former Foreign Affairs Minister, Chief Tom Ikimi, after which the result will be officially released.

However, the Majority Leader of the House of Representatives, Col. Tunde Akogun, lost his bid to return to the National Assembly, after losing to the former President of the NUPENG, and ACN candidate, Mr Peter Akpatason, in the House of Representatives election for Akoko Edo Federal constituency.

ACN captured the ten seats in Edo South, all the seats in Edo North, Oshiomhole’s base and one so far in Edo Central, Chief Tony Anenih’s domain. But the state chapter of the PDP, yesterday, alleged that there were “obvious” irregularities in many of the polling centres, adding that the party will contest results in those areas in court.

Releasing the results for Akoko-Edo Federal Constituency, INEC’s Returning Officer, Okuhon Victor, said ACN’s Akpatason polled 36,174 as against PDP’s 16,358.

In Akoko-Edo Constituency I for the state House of Assembly, ACN;13,483, PDP, 6,939 while in Akoko-Edo II,  ACN; 29,005, PDP, 16,358.   For Etsako west constituency 1, ACN candidate Momoh Aliu polled 10, 092 to beat Labour Party candidate, Garuba Hussein who polled 2,552 votes.

In Owan West House of Assembly constituency seat, Mike Ezomo of ACN polled 11,407 to beat the incumbent absentee PDP candidate, Blessing Agbebaku, who polled 8,437.wp_posts
