Edo has become Syria; Wike is Putin, Baba is Trump –Shehu Sani

(NNP) The political imbroglio in Edo State has descended to a new low with the dual impeachment of the Speaker, Frank Okiye and his deputy on the same day. The development has drawn reaction from some of the eminent politicians in the country, including former vociferous senator from Kaduna, Shehu Sani, who likened the unfolding political situation to Syria. He stated in a tweet, “Edo has become Syria; Obaseki is Assad, Wike is Putin, Baba is Trump, Jagaban is Nathanyahu with Saudi, Turkey, Iran and Terror groups all in there.“

On Thursday, armed security personnel occupied the House of Assembly, claiming they were sent to preserve the peace as parties accused each other of a planned attack of the House to forcible seize the maze. In the meantime, Bola Tinubu, the national leader of the opposition party, APC, has accused Gov. Obaseki of depriving two-third of the state democratic representation in the House of Assembly.

With the gubernatorial elections barely 45 days away, President Buhari has endorsed the APC candidate, Pastor Ize-Iyamu, an act that has drawn the sharp condemnation from the Rivers State governor, Nyesom Wike. He accused the president of not being serious on the war on corruption with his endorsement of the APC candidate. The polls are scheduled for September 19, 2020.
