This was contained in a statement by Mr. Ihab Fahmy on behalf of the Egyptian Embassy in Nigeria, in Abuja, on Wednesday.

The statement said Egypt strongly condemned the attacks on government building and facilities in the northern Eastern city of Damaturu, Yobe State, on November 4, 2011, which left many people dead and several others injured.

The statement read in part, “The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Arab Republic of Egypt also expresses the condolences of the Government and the people of the Arab Republic of Egypt to the families and relatives of the victims of those attacks and to the brotherly people and government of the Federal Republic of Nigeria and wishes those injured a speedy recovery.”

Boko Haram, which loosely translated, means “Western education is sacrilege,” has claimed responsibility for previous attacks. The latest was the deadliest since the group attacked a UN building in the capital, Abuja, in August, killing 26 people and injuring over 100.

The sect’s spokesman who goes by the name, Abdul-Qaqa, was quoted by Abuja- based Daily Trust Newspaper, as promising more attacks.

Abul-Qaqa was quoted to have said, “We will continue attacking federal government formations until security forces stop their excesses on our members and vulnerable civilians.”
