Eid-il-Fitr: Book Haram killing worries Sultan, pleads with FG to tackle insecurity
Boko Haram, Headlines, Sultan of Sokoto Friday, July 17th, 2015The Sultan of Sokoto, Alhaji Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar III, yesterday expressed deep concern the wanton killings in the Northeastern states as a result of the Boko Haram insurgency.
The Sultan stated this in his sallah message to the Muslim Ummah at his palace in Sokoto yesterday, adding that the perpetrators of the heinous acts were out to destroy Islam.
He enjoined Muslim ummah to continue living in peace and harmony with one another and prayed God bring an end to the bloodshed in the country.
Abubakar III also described as senseless the serial killings of villagers by cattle rustlers in the North, especially in Zamfara and Sokoto states, and called on the Federal Government to adopt stringent measures to tackle the menace in the North.
“I am appealing to the Federal Government to take proactive measures against cattle rustling in the North, especially in Zamfara and some communities in Sokoto state where people are being killed and their cattle stolen by cattle rustlers.
“There is need for traditional leaders in the North to join hands with governments in the region in order to curb the ugly trend,” the monarch said.
On western education, the monarch urged parents to enrol their children in schools to acquire both western and Islamic education.
He advised Northern governors to enact laws that would compel parents to send their children to school, saying there won’t be security when majority of youths are ignorant.
“We must ensure that parents send their children to school to acquire education because society will not be secured when majority of young people are ignorant,” the Sultan stated.
