Enugu pledges N10m for information leading to the arrest of Kwara CP

Enugu State Governor Sullivan Chime on Monday said the state government would give N10m to anyone with information that could lead to the arrest of the killers of Kwara State Commissioner of Police, Chinwike Asadu.

The police chief was gunned down on Saturday in Enugu.

Chime said the offer was born out of the need to resolve the puzzle surrounding the killing, which he described as “a humiliation to the police and the country”.

The governor stated this when he visited the Abakpa-Nike, Enugu residence of the deceased police commissioner.

Chime said, “This is most embarrassing not just to the police, but to the nation. For the killing of a senior police officer in such a manner, to me, it is quite unfortunate and the state government has decided to take a position on this in order to show the seriousness of what has happened.

“In the last few weeks, it has followed a pattern. What they do now is to follow and kill people with escorts; they kill and collect the guns of their victims. So, we are paying a ransom of N10m for anybody that will give us information that will lead to the arrest of the culprits. It’s quite embarrassing.”

Chime added that the state would provide necessary assistance to security agencies to ensure the arrest of the killers.

Chime, who condoled with the Inspector-General of Police, as well the government and people of Kwara State, pledged that the state government would assist the deceased family to assuage the pains of the killing.

Meanwhile, detectives and forensic experts from the police homicide division on Monday visited Abakpa Nike, Enugu, where the assassination took place.

Though no report of any arrests had been made, it was learnt that the detectives were at the crime scene to gather information as well as other evidence that would assist them in their investigation.

Sources told our correspondent in Abuja that the investigators were being methodical in their bid to reconstruct the crime incident and build a list of suspects that were involved in the attack on the CP.

“The detectives would need to move fast and raid all black spots to prevent the gunmen and other suspects from escaping from the state to another part of the country,” a senior officer said.

It was gathered that the investigators would rely on information from the two policemen that were with Asadu when he was attacked.

The assailants injured the CP’s orderly, Aloha Olaniyi, and driver, Oliver Omeh. They are currently receiving treatment at the National Orthopedic Hospital, Enugu.

Also, another police officer told one of our correspondent, “The police are in a hurry to apprehend the assailants, but they can’t afford to repeat the Oyerinde mistake, so they are treading carefully.”

According to the officer, who craved anonymity, the homicide division has a good chance of solving the murder case if the investigators are thorough, professional and impartial.
