Ex-militants protest non-payment of allowances

UGHELLI — Former militants, under the aegis of Association of Phase II Amnesty Followers, yesterday, thronged the streets of Bomadi, Bomadi Local Government Area, Delta State in protest over alleged non-payment of their monthly allowances.

The protesters numbering over 300 carried placards with inscriptions such as “Mr. President help us,” “Pay our money into our accounts,” “We need good leaders,” among others. They accused  their leaders of conniving with the Amnesty Board to deny them of their three months’ salary.

Speaking during the protest, Chairman of the group, Mr. Amanana Abuza lamented that they were living in penury despite efforts by the Federal Government to ensure prompt payment of their allowances to the Amnesty Board.

According to him, “identity cards were issued to every member of the group in Obubra, Cross River State, at the instance of the board and we were asked to open individual bank accounts, which we did. They promised to pay the allowances into the accounts which were opened on March 25, 2011, and since then nothing has been paid into our accounts.”
