Fayemi’s wife challenges women lawmakers

LAGOS—Wife of Ekiti State Governor, Erelu Bisi Fayemi has challenged women in the parliament to focus on responsive governance and gender issues, even as a university lecturer, Professor Akin Oyebode said the world was looking for a time women would assume the highest position in all facets of life.

At a two-day agenda setting workshop for women in parliament in Nigeria organised by Women Advocates’ Research and Documentation Centre, WARDC, in collaboration with Henrich Boll Stifung, HBS and African Women Development Fund, AWDF, Executive Director of WARDC, Mrs. Abiola Akiyode-Afolabi said the programme was aimed at achieving an agenda that would make women achieve desired “visibility and participation in governance.”

Speaking at the workshop with the theme of the workshop is “Strengthening Democracy through the Millennium Development Goals; Roles of the Parliament”, Mrs. Fayemi said there had been disappointing numbers of women in active politics the country.
