FCT swells by 10,000 people daily
Abuja (FCT), State News Friday, March 25th, 2011
The Minister of Federal Capital Territory, Senator Bala Mohammed, said on Thursday in Abuja that the population of the territory increased by 10,000 people daily.
Mohammed told the News Agency of Nigeria that the high rate of population increase had made Abuja one of the fastest growing cities in the world.
The situtation, he said, necessitated infrastructural development as existing facilities had been overstretched.
“The demographic indices show that there are over 10,000 people coming into FCT daily.
“Ten per cent stay back and it is impacting on security because you have to really keep in touch and know what you are doing,” he said.
The minister said the bloated population was taking its toll on the infrastructure and sectors within the FCT, including education, health, agriculture, land and water among others.
Mohammed added that his administration was doing everything possible to provide adequate infrastructure
