FG disengages 13 universities’ VCs

MINISTRY of Education has announced disengage­ment of 12 Vice Chancellors (VCs) of Federal owned universities hitherto estab­lished by former president Goodluck Jonathan and their immediate replacement.

According to a release signed by the Minister of Education, Mallam Adamu Adamu, the decision to re­place the VCs was part of the measures by the present administration to address the falling standard of educa­tion in the country. The Vice Chancellors of the National Open University of Nige­ria (NOUN), Prof. Vincent Tenebe, was among those shown the way out.

The statement further disclosed that President Muhammadu Buhari had approved the appointment of new VCs to replace those disengaged. Sunday Sun findings, however, revealed that four of the newly ap­pointed Vice Chancellors were from Kano.

With the change of guards, the substantive Vice Chancellor of the Federal University, Dutse, Jigawa State, Prof. Mohammed Kundiri, is now the Vice Chancellor of the Federal University, Wukari, Taraba State, while a former Head, Department of International Relations at the Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife, Prof. Kayode Soremekun, who was said to be on Sab­batical in NOUN is to man the Federal University, Oye- Ekiti, Ekiti State.

The Federal University, Birnin Kebbi, Kebbi State, also has Prof. Auwal Yadu­du of the Faculty of Law, Bayero University, Kano, as its new VC. Prof. Fatima Batoul Muktar of the De­partment of Biology, North West University, Kano, is the VC of Federal Univer­sity, Dutse, Jigawa State.

Another lecturer in the Department of Pharmacy, ABU, Zaria, Prof. Magaji Garba, will now be VC in Federal University, Gusau, Zamfara State, as Prof. Al­hassan Mohammed Gani of the Institute of Maritime Studies, Federal University, Kashere, Gombe State, as­sumes responsibility as the Vice chancellor of the same university.

Prof. Haruna Abdu Kaita, a lecturer in the Department of Pharmacy, Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, is the new VC of Federal University, Dutsin Ma, Katsina State, while Prof. Andrew Haruna of the Department of Lin­guistics, University of Jos will now function as VC, Federal University, Gashua, Yobe State.

Prof. Muhammad Sanusi Liman of the Department of Physics, Federal University, Lafia, will be VC of same institution.
