FG reacts to viral hydroxychloroquine video of Nigerian-trained Cameroonian doctor

(NNP) The Nigerian government has reacted to the trending video posted on several social media platforms of a group of doctors who called themselves America’s Frontline Doctors. The group seemingly headed by Dr. Stella Immanuel, a Nigerian-trained Cameroon-born doctor, claim categorically that COVID-19 patients could be cured with the malaria drug hydroxychloroquine.

Dr. Immanuel, 55, a 1990 graduate of the University of Calabar medical school, and also a pastor and founder of the Fire Power Ministries, stated in front of the U.S. Supreme Court building along with other white-coat wearing mostly white doctors on July 27 that she has cured over 350 patients with the above drug and with Zinc and Zithromax. She stated, “I’m here because I have personally treated over 350 patients with COVID,” Immanuel said in the video.

“Patients that have diabetes, patients that have high blood pressure, patients that have asthma, old people… I think my oldest patient is 92…87-year-olds. And the result has been the same. I put them on hydroxychloroquine, I put them on zinc, I put them on Zithromax, and they’re all well.”

She continued, “We see patients, 10 to 15 COVID patients, every day.” “We give them breathing treatments. We only wear a surgical mask. None of us has gotten sick. It works.”

But in two separate, but identical responses, the Ministry of Information and Nigeria Centre for Disease Control, stated on Twitter, that the use of hydroxychloroquine is “only limited to clinical trials.“

“Some trial drugs show promising results but are yet to be validated for use,” NCDC said on Twitter on Tuesday.

Her claim has been lauded by President Trump who retweeted the controversial video to his 84 million followers on Twitter before it was taken down.

Dr. Immanuel relocated to the U.S. in 1992 and completed her pediatric residency at the Bronx-Lebanon Hospital in New York. Her career started at the pediatric clinic in Lousiana. The Cameroonian doctor is the owner of the Rapha Medical and Therapeutic Clinic in Louisiana which opened in 2006. In 2019, according to records, Dr. Immanuel started working for the Rehoboth Medical Center which she also owns. This center is located in Houston.

  1. NCDC will not bliv in her , they have their personal interest

  2. I think is good Nigeria govt. give the informain a trial. In a time like this, not too bad to violate some principle so that lives can be saved. Covid 19 is too clever than to wait for all that long.
