FG vows to fish out perpetrators of Plateau, Bauchi, Borno crises (Blah, Blah…)
Bauchi, Borno, Latest Politics, Plateau, State News Monday, January 31st, 2011Minister for Information and Communications, Mr. Labran Maku, yesterday, vowed to bring the perpetrators of Plateau, Bauchi and Borno states’ killings to book.
Maku, who stated this while answering questions from newsmen, condemned incessant killing of politicians in recent times in the country.
It would be recalled that Borno State All Nigerian Peoples Party, ANPP, gubernatorial candidate, Late Alhaji Fanamin Modu Gubio, younger brother to Governor Ali Modu Shreriff, and five others, were last Friday assassinated in Maiduguri.
Maku said: “We are saddened by the insecurity in Tafewa Balewa local government area of Borno State and the continuous killings in Jos, Plateau State.
“Mr. President, Goodluck Ebele Jonathan, is very concerned and has vowed to beef up security in the country. The Inspector General of Police, Hafix Rigim, in collaboration with other security agencies, is doing everything possible to fish out the evil perpetrators.
“It is very shocking and distracting for anyone or a fellow contestant to take the life of his opponent. The Federal Government is ready to bring them to justice because security agencies have been deployed to these (crises) states and the work is going to be round the clock, we must give peace a chance.
“A lot of meetings are ongoing to review security activities in the country, and there are also plans to work with both religious and community leaders so as to ensure peace in Jos.”
He appealed to all Nigerians to ensure that they lived in peace and harmony with one another.
The minister called on all politicians in the country to ensure that they stopped the use of violence to fulfill their own selfish ambition.
“Your ambition should not be greater than the development and security of the nation. Politicians must shun any form of violence in the coming general elections.
“Our politics and election should not only been seen as free, fair and credible but politicians should play it with greater responsibility. Unless they accept defeat in good fate, everything will become lip-service,” he said.
