George, 5 others regain freedom next month •14 prisoners plead for clemency
Latest Politics Monday, January 10th, 2011Former national deputy chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) South-West, Chief Olabode George and five others will on February 28 regain their freedom.
Nigerian Tribune gathered that the former chairman of the Nigeria Ports Authority (NPA) and others were jailed for financial mismanagement at the port during his tenure.
The suspects who were jailed two years. Source at the Nigerian Prison Service (NPS) told the Nigerian Tribune on Monday, that they would be released after the expiration of their jail terms.
The source added that efforts had been on to ensure that the politician and his colleagues regain freedom next month.
Meanwhile, 14 prisoners serving various jail terms at the Kirikiri Maximum Prison, Lagos State, have called on the state government to have another look at their cases for possible release from prison.
The prisoners who, had put in between 14 and 22 years, Nigerian Tribune gathered have decided to appeal to the Lagos State government in view of their readiness to turn a new leaf.
