Give-Back: U.S Group Donates To Students In Eket Communities

Students of Eket Modern High School, Ekpene Obo and its Primary School counterpart, Qua Iboe Church Primary School, Ekpene Obo, all in Esit Eket and that of Government Secondary School, Afaha Eket and pupils of St. Gregory Primary School, Ikot Ebok all in Eket Local Government Area started the school session in high spirit following the presentation of backpack, school bags and other educational materials to them by members of Eket Development Congress, USA, Inc., in collaboration with Eket indigenes in Canada.

The colourful presentation which took place on 20^th April, 2016 at the various schools saw the elated pupils and students singing choruses, dancing, jumping, and thanking God for visiting them with such magnanimity. In Eket Modern High School, Ekpene Obo where the team first visited the Principal of the school, Mrs. Deborah Bassey Macaulay received the team alongside his Vice Principal Administration. She commended members of the Congress for their benevolence and rejoiced that her school was chosen by a public spirited Organization such as Eket Development Congress in the United States of America. She disclosed that those that were selected to benefit from the largesse were their best brains from J.S.S. 1 to S.S.S2 and are committed students, whose quest was to excel in the academic work.

In Government Secondary School, Afaha Eket, the Principal Mr. Godwin Ekong, described the visit by Eket Development Congress in the United States of America as timely, as it will boost and encourage the students to do better. He appealed to other public spirited individuals and Organizations to emulate the gesture. Stressing that the gesture is in line with the spirit of Dakkada that is currently driving the state to greatness. The Principal presented the students for the assistance and described them as serious minded students who are zealous with their academic work.

Speaking during the presentation of the backpack to the students at the various schools, the President General of Eket Development Congress, USA, Inc., Prince Chris Oduok expressed satisfaction on their accomplishment and thanked God for his provision that has enabled them to extend the gesture to the students of Eket origin. He disclosed that the theme for the programme “BACKPACK FOR SUCCESS. TRANSFORM THE EKET CHILD 2016,” is an answer to the call by the government of Governor Udom Emmanuel that all should Dakkada and plough back what they have to the society.

Prince Oduok who was accompanied by the Director of Socials of the Congress, Princess Mary Wellington, alongside other volunteers pleaded with the teachers to take their work seriously as the society looks up to them for the moulding of characters of the younger ones. He urged the students to be hardworking as their future is in their hands. Prince Oduok opined that, the industrialization and technological strides of the government rests on the ability of its citizenry to be technologically compliant, hence the need to train youths. He disclosed that the congress has in the past given out scholarships to deserving Eket students among other things.

Responding on behalf of the beneficiaries, a student of Government Secondary School, Afaha Eket, thanked the Congress for their welfare package and for thinking about them despite their being far off the shores of this country.

The event featured the recitation of the Dakkada creed, praise singing, dances, question, answering session and chants of appreciation from the beneficiaries.wp_posts
