Govt sacks 4 FAAN directors, others
Headlines Thursday, October 6th, 2011Four directors and a general manager were removed from the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) on Wednesday, two days after three chief executives were sacked by the Federal Government.
Main directors of Nigerian Airspace Management Agency (NAMA) and Nigerian College of Aviation Technology (NCAT) were removed from office on Tuesday after some months of long speculations that they might be sacked.
Those affected were Director of Administration, Adeniyi Ajakaiye; Director of Commercials, Grace Etomi; Azuka Onyia, Director of Finance and Muhammed Bello, Director of Environment.
The affected directors, on Wednesday, received their letters, just as the General Manager, Legal Services, Bayo Olamidun, was also sacked.
Nigerian Tribune, however, learnt that the new Managing Director of NAMA, former Director of Engineering and Electronics in the agency, Nnamdi Udoh, assumed office on Wednesday.
George Uriesi has also assumed as acting Managing Director of FAAN.
Speaking on the matter, Tukur Muhammed, Secretary General of Airline Operators of Nigeria (AON), said some of the sacked chiefs like Adebayo Araba, rector of Nigerian College of Aviation Technology, had served well and turned the lot of the college around, saying that he demanded commendation.
He, however, said that it was not expected that a managing director or director would remain in office for life, since there are other specialists.
He said the change would move the industry forward.
According to Saidu Abdurasak, General Secretary of Nigerian Aviation Professionals Association (NAPA), “there is no way they will bring such people who have knowledge about the industry that it will not cause chaos, they did not put the round pegs in the round holes. Their removal is justifiable so as to move FAAN forward.”
