Wife of the Anglican Bishop of Lagos West, Mrs. Lydia Odedeji, on Friday lauded the Senate for its stance against same-sex marriage in Nigeria.

She also appealed to the government and all stakeholders to work towards the timely resolution of the ongoing industrial action embarked upon by members of the Academic Staff Union of Universities.

Odedeji spoke in her presidential address delivered at the diocese’s  Women’s Guild 14th Annual Conference, a copy of which was made available to our correspondent.

She said the stance of the Senate was a true reflection of the wish of the citizens of the country, adding that the action had endeared the Senate to Nigerians.

Odedeji said, “We thank God for our Senate who took a godly stance on the issue of same sex marriage, we pray that the Lord will continually guide them.

“Members of the Academic Staff Union of Universities are presently on an industrial action, we plead with the government for quick resolution of the conflict.

“On security, we should intensify our prayers for the nation as we battle with kidnapping, armed robberies, assassinations and abductions.”

The Women Guild president also commended the Lagos State Governor, Babatunde Fashola; and his deputy, Adejoke Orelope-Adefulire for efforts aimed at developing the state.

She observed that the present administration in the state had worked hard to provide massive infrastructure for the state, adding that the Lagos-Badagry Expressway was one of such.

“The project began about two years ago; today, it is said that the project has attained high percentage of completion.  We give kudos to the Lagos State Government for this laudable project, and we do hope that it will be completed very soon,” she added.

Odedeji described Fashola and his deputy as achievers, pointing out that they had made giant strides in the education sector in the state.

The bishop’s wife also made a case for the development of infrastructure across the country in order to meet the demands of the teeming population of the country, especially the youth.

She called for concerted efforts aimed at tackling unemployment problem in the country.
