Gunmen kill Pastor, neigbour in Bauchi village
Bauchi, Headlines, State News Friday, May 20th, 2011Unknown gunmen, yesterday, killed a pastor and one other person at Jaruma village in Toro Local Government Area of Bauchi State.
It was gathered that the two victims, Pastor Irmiya Maigida, 55, from Bogor Local Government Area and his neighbour, Joshua were murdered at home while asleep.
Widow of the pastor, Keziya Irimiya, speaking from her hospital bed at Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University Teaching Hospital, (ATBUTH) Bauchi said she was sleeping when she heard gunshots at about 2am on that fateful day. Their first target was Josuhua and after killing him, they made for the pastor’s house.
She said, “I was at home sleeping when I heard the gun shots. I came out of my room and felt a bullet in my hand.”
She was also matcheted on the back and legs, while four men seized her and dragged her into the bush. They then covered her with leaves before fleeing.
In his own account, son of the late pastor Ishaya Irmiya said he received a call from his sister that their father had been shot.
“We got to Jaruma and met our father alive, but in great pains. My father and my mother were rushed to the hospital in Bauchi but my father died on the way because the police delayed them in Toro asking for a statement and before they could settle everything and allow them to pass, my father died. He would have survived if the police had not delayed,” he said.
The pastor has been buried at the Christian cemetery in Yelwa.
