How Nigerians reacted to Melaye’s freedom from ‘kidnappers’

By Yusuf Luka

Nigerians have weighed on the escape of the Kogi West Senator, Dino Melaye, from those who reportedly abducted him.

DAILY POST recalls that Melaye, on Friday announced his escape from kidnappers.

The lawmaker was billed to appear in court on Thursday but failed following a reported attack on him by gunmen suspected to be kidnappers.

In response, some Nigerians are of the opinion that the Kogi lawmaker might have staged his abduction and escape, while others wished Melaye well.

Below are some of the comments gathered by DAILY POST from Twitter:

@mikeko1234, “Thank God for your escape! Thank God the armed kidnappers did not shoot; or did you also dodge the bullets? Thank God there were no wild beasts in that wilderness. Please stay in your house on the 9th of August and ask the army to come escort you to court with a tank. God bless!”

@hamlaw080, “Ogbeni @dino_melaye best movie acting senator of all time…nobody go ever match your record…Iwo werey jati jati yi.”

@olumideomowaiye, “If @dino_melaye is truly smart, he would have distance himself from this childish political games he has been acting on. Our eyes have cleared since ‘Ajekun Iya ni yo je’ hit track.”

@UPJESUS01, “For the course you are fighting (voice to the voiceless), the Almighty God will never leave you or forsake you. We the good people of Kogi West Senatorial District are saying thank God for your life.”

@Iam_Blaqsmith, “We’re busy praying for the innocent people who are victims of the decisions you and your visionless ilks make. Nobody cares if you’re kidnapped and never released.”

@Tobi_Nextlevel, “Millions of Nigerians know, you stage managed your abduction @dino_melaye just to avoid your day in court. Law enforcement is not for d poor alone, is for d poor and Nigeria made rich politicians, and all of u that don’t want progress of this country will be deleted one by one.”

@AuditorSUN, “Welcome back sir! Please what really happened? Where did they take you to and how did you escape. Did you pay a ransom or did they just kidnap you so that you won’t be available in court for your case?”

@strongyard, “We join u in thanking God however a detailed explanation will make a whole lot of sense otherwise d conspiracy theory of your alleged history of stage managing all this may make more sense in the mind of the average Nigeria. Can u be distinguished enough to explain what happened.”

@Hlimited, “Senator of the federal republic. You are truly a product of your institution. The court should know that you are a flight risk. Your bail should be withdrawn with this theatrics.”
