I have no regrets serving under Jonathan – Sacked Defence Minister
Latest Politics Tuesday, June 26th, 2012FORMER Defence Minister, Dr Bello Haliru Mohammed, on Tuesday, charged the Nigerian Armed Forces to continue to give President Goodluck Jonathan’s administration the necessary support, especially as it concerns ensuring peace and stability of the nation.
He gave the advice while handing over to his former deputy, Mrs Olusola Obada.
In his speech at the handover ceremonies on Tuesday, the former minister told the military and MOD staff: “You should remember that this is a PDP administration and President Jonathan being the standard-bearer, has mapped out a transformation agenda that will enable him and the PDP to succeed.”
He assured the minister of state and the hierarchy of the military that he would not abandon them and that he would be there for them anytime his contribution or opinion was needed to move the military and the nation forward.
Mohammed noted that he had no hard feelings as he had put in his best to serve this country at different levels.
Earlier, Minister of State, Chief Obada had described Mohammed as a father figure who brought his wealth of experience, leadership qualities and exemplary vision to bear on the running of the Ministry of Defence.
“Your contributions to the uplift of the Armed Forces, especially in ensuring that Nigeria maintains its position as the fourth largest troop contributor to the United Nations in peacekeeping operations, ensuring that contingent-owned equipment airlift to mission areas in particular, cannot be overemphasised,” she said.
