IBB’s life, testimony of good leadership – Gov Aliyu
Ibrahim Babangida (1985-93), Niger, Presidency, State News Wednesday, August 17th, 2011NIGER State governor, Dr Mu’azu Babangida Aliyu, has paid a glowing tribute to former military president, General Ibrahim Baban-gida (IBB) who clocked 70 years on Wednesday.
Dr Aliyu said IBB’s life was a testimony to the power of good leadership and purposeful living.
In a statement by his Chief Press Secretary (CPS) Mallam Danladi Ndayebo, the governor said the former military leader excelled in his chosen profession and presided over Africa’s most influential and populous country during which period he showed rare vision, courage and exemplary leadership.
“It is no longer news that General Babangida is an embodiment of the can-do spirit of Nigerians, who rose through the ranks to reach the highest echelon of the military, by sheer dint of hard work, dedication to duty and perseverance,” the statement said.
Speaking further, he said IBB had left legacies in all sectors, political engineering, infrastructural development, economic and national integration.
The governor said citizens of Niger State were proud to be associated with the achievements of the former leader, especially the realisation of the vision of Abuja as the Federal Capital City (FCT), by providing the most vital infrastructure and moving the seat of power from Lagos in 1991.
“The privatisation of the broadcast industry, the licensing of private universities and airlines, the libe-ralisation of the banking industry, including the establishment of community banks (now microfinance institutions) rank among his best legacies,” the statement added.
