ICPC holds anti-graft forum for presidential candidates
Latest Politics Thursday, March 24th, 2011THE Independent Corrupt Practices and other related offences Commission (ICPC) would hold an anti-corruption forum for presidential candidates in the April elections so as to sample their plans for the eradication of corruption in the country.
The event, which has been billed for Thursday, March 31, will hold in Abuja. Consultant on Media to the ICPC, Mr. Folu Olumiti, said in a statement that the candidates would be given opportunities on live broadcast media to make presentations to Nigerians on how they intend to fight corruption if elected.
“The one-day forum slated to hold at Nicon Luxury, is meant to fulfill the ICPC’s mandate of enlightening and mobilising the public against corruption as encapsulated in section 6(b-f) of the Act establishing the Commission”.
“The forum is an avenue for the presidential candidates to educate and inform Nigerians on their programmes of action to confront the menace of corruption in Nigeria”, he said.
Olumiti added that invitation letters had been dispatched to all the candidates already and the Nigerian Television Authority (NTA) had agreed to support the forum with a live transmission.
