Sequel to attacks unleashed on seven members of the Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN) at Yekemi Abata Egba in Ife East Local Government Area of Osun State on Wednesday, by thugs suspected to be members of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), the lawmaker representing Ife federal constituency, Hon. Rotimi Makinde, has condemned the assault, urging the police to bring the culprits to book.
In a statement made available to newsmen yesterday, Makinde lamented the spate of violence antics from the PDP in recent times in Ife, stressing that the PDP has concoct a scheme to disrupt the serenity of Ife and its environs ahead of the 2014 gubernatorial election in Osun state.
His words: “PDP is gradually positioning Ife and by extension, the state of Osun towards anarchy to enable them declares state of emergency. To the PDP, this is the only option left for them to terminate the appreciable transformation of Aregbesola that we are witnessing.
“Yesterday’s attack on Ife East ACN chairman and six others is barbaric and condemnable. The elements involved in this act must be brought to book. The peace and tranquility that we are enjoying in state of Osun is what they are after and they would never succeed.”
While citing similar attacks aimed at him, Makinde, a lawmaker elected on the platform of ACN, noted that five innocent souls including his brothers, were killed by hired assassins who came to his residence looking for him on the eve of the National Assembly election in 2011.
“Violence and killings are the stock in trade of the PDP. However, we are calling on security agencies to bring these violence tides under control before the 2014 gubernatorial election in the state because we are not in a banana republic,” he said.
Members of the ACN were on Wednesday attacked during a rally organized by the party in the area. It was reported that thugs armed with guns, cutlasses and cudgels attacked the rally.
