Immigration decorates 22 comptroller with new ranks (for taking bribes?)

THE Nigerian Immigration Service (NIS) on Wednesday decorated 22 Comptrollers of Immigration, who were  promoted to Assistant Comptrollers-General (ACG) with their new ranks.

Comptroller-General of the service, Mrs Rose  Uzoma, performed the ceremony at the NIS headquarters in Abuja.

She said the promotion became imperative as a result of recent restructuring and expansion of the service from three  to seven directorates.

She added that the management had pursued the restructuring programme out of the conviction that it would not only enhance efficient and effective service delivery, but “bring about greater prospects of career progression for officers of the service.”

Mrs Uzoma, who described as “quite outstanding,” the number of beneficiaries in the elevation, noted that 844 officers had been upgraded, while the last promotion recorded 2,045 officers.

The Immigration boss stated that the newly promoted officers were those she believed would take the service to the new level, warning them not to take the promotion as  self glorification, but a challenge.

She charged them to see the elevation as a call to duty especially in strengthening  borders control, passports issuance, monitoring and supervision of officers under them.

“Therefore, you must redouble your efforts and give more in the service of the nation. The present security challenges confronting the nation demands proactive measures from you all.

“I therefore urge you to settle down immediately to develop strategies to improve the overall performance of the service and contribute your quota in stemming the current undesirable situation of insecurity facing the country.” She stated

Responding, one of the newly promoted officers, ACG Abass Hammed, while thanking the management, promised that they would do everything possible on their own part to reciprocate the gesture bestowed on them.
